SILK. for the natural silk cocoons
LAPIS. for the brilliance of the colour of the precious stone.
LEATHER. for the hand made strips of buttery charcoal lambskin.
Layers and layers, strings and strings… SILK. LAPIS. LEATHER neckpiece is majestic and feather weight, inspired by the early traders on the Silk Road. Two worlds met through the exchange of precious materials that ancient merchants brought from the far East to trade with the West. From a box full of silk cocoons came a centuries-old silk production industry. Leather wrapped shards of gold-flecked lapis lazuli became powdery pigment that introduced the coveted lasting brilliance of a blue never before seen.
Exhibited by invitation at “La Vie en Soie” in Bonnieux, France invited by artist/designer Joanna Staniszkis and curated by Kamila Regent of Galerie Kamila Regent Saignon, France
